The Significance of Hair Mineral Ratios: What to know


 

Ca:mg Calcium to Magnesium “The Blood Sugar Ratio” 

Normal range for ratio: 6.6:1 

If this ratio shows to be >10:1 or <3.3:1, the patient may have diabetes or hypoglycemia.

Symptoms of Hyperglycemia:

  • Skin tags
  • Extreme exhaustion
  • Frequent urination
  • Loss of sex drive
  • Excessive thirst
  • Heart/Kidney disease

Symptoms of Hypoglycemia:

  • Coordination problems, clumsiness 
  • Feeling weak or having no energy 
  • Irritability or no patience 
  • Feeling light headed or dizzy/nausea 
  • Feeling shaky 
  • Hunger 

Na:mg Sodium to Magnesium “The Adrenal Ratio” 

Normal range for this ratio is 4:1.

If this ratio is > 4:1, it shows excessive adrenal function, tends to anxiety, irritability. If <4:1, it shows underactive adrenals, adrenal fatigue, salt cravings, low Blood Pressure, hypoglycemia

Symptoms of Adrenal Fatigue:

  • Non-restorative sleep (i.e.: tired after 10 hours of sleep)
  • Salt cravings
  • Sensitivities to heat and cold

Normal range for this ratio is 2.5:1. 

If this ratio is <2.5:1, it shows the patient to have adrenal exhaustion, burnout, allergies, chronic weakness, failing immunity. If >4:1, it shows inflammation, pain, anger, Liver/Kidney stress. 


Zn:Cu Zinc to Copper “The Genito-Urinary Ratio” (Sexual Hormones, both M/F) 

Normal range for this ratio is 8:1. 

If this ratio is >8:1, it shows the patient to have hypothyroidism, reproductive organ /hormone imbalances.

Normal range for this ratio is 2.5:1. 

If this ratio is <2.5:1, it shows Catabolism, some breakdown of body tissue. 

If >2.5:1 it shows the patient has inadequate protein intake or utilization.
